When you purchase a car, you’ll find out from the dealership that there are two kinds of warranties that may be provided by the manufacturer. One is a powertrain warranty which will cover anything that has to do with the power of your vehicle. This includes your driveshaft, velocity joints and transmission.
A bumper-to-bumper warranty package provides you with coverage for pretty much anything else that’s located between your front bumper and rear bumper. There are a few exceptions. For example, anything that needs to be replaced because of normal wear and tear will need to be paid for out of pocket. This would include brake pads, tires, etc.
The type of warranty and the duration will be determined by the vehicle that you choose. A brand new vehicle typically gets good coverage for the first two to five years, depending on the manufacturer. A used vehicle may come with the remainder of the warranty that is left from the previous owner.
